“BRIAN’S” Blog & Updates

31/10/2010 07:13 - Hey up back for a litle bit of an update

Hi to all my friends who may still pop in and see if I have made an update to the blog.
Just to let you all know I have had the op to put the stent in for my aortic aneurism that happened 3 weeks ago on Monday I came out of hospital on the Wednesday and felt really bad for around 2½ weeks. I had hiccups for 10 days that is not very pleasant not being able to eat and drink properly, after various visits to the Drs, and phone calls to the hospital my specialist nurse spoke to the oncologist who recommended a tablet that worked brilliantly. Up till then I could only stop the hiccups by making myself gag eventually the gag reflex stops working. Then it could easily take about it could take 5/6 attempts to do it so not very pleasant at all.
I think that I had a very bad reaction this time, it was called keyhole surgery they put 2 incisions in my groin one each side and each one is about 1½ inches long and is even more painful that the incisions I had had in my neck. Still very sore and very tender, and not exactly comfortable to walk, though I do walk at least once a day but very slowly.

I would also like to say here Mike has done a fantastic job with the site so far. The changes you can see are the menu look how much easier it is to read now. Then there are the changes that you cannot see like the added security to the site moved over to a new server and other bits and bobs. Unfortunately Colin did not last too long and he had some very good ideas as well, shame really as I felt that between them both they could have really got the site a long way up the list. I think it will still happen with Mike at the helm but will take that little bit longer. If you are a person who has some clerical sort of abilities and have a few hours spare I think that Mile would love to hear from you. Remember the site is there for you so why not help to look after it. 3 or people giving an hour each a week would make life so much easier for Mike.

I’ll be back.

19/10/2010 20:46 - Site Administration

From: Colin

This is just to inform everyone that unfortunately due to work and family commitments I find that I am unable to devote the amount of time necessary to undertake the role of administering the website, and have handed over total responsibility to Mike

As before, if anyone out there would like to assist Mike in running this superb site, then please contact him as soon as possible to register your interest.

One of my last pieces of work before finishing was to return the two recently revamped albums to their original format, as the new look and feel were unfortunately not to everyone's tastes

17/10/2010 12:07 - Site Updates - First Revamped Album Available

From: Colin

The first revamped album has been uploaded onto the live site. It is under Troops & Other Albums > 1 Air Support. I have renumbered all of the photos in the album 001.jpg - 002.jpg - 003.jpg etc. This way it will always be easy to find new photos as they will be at the end of the album. The slideshow transition is set to five seconds, but you can move through the slides manually, and you can always click directly on a thumbnail to view the larger version of the photo. Clicking on 'Royal Signals Photo Albums' at the top takes you back to the main index. I will now start to work my way through all the remaining albums, starting obviously with the ones that there are outstanding photos to add.

14/10/2010 20:10 - Update On Revamping The Photo Albums

From: Colin

Just to keep everyone informed; I have pretty much worked out the mechanics of the new photo album software and we have already uploaded and tested an album on the live site. My first attempt at getting a new look and feel was a bit of a dismal failure (too dark, and not too user friendly). I have only just uploaded another test album for Mike and Brian to view and give their verdict. I have other 'skins' (the part of the software that gives the album its look and feel) that I can use, so by trial and error I am optimistic that I will give the albums a nice revamp. Still a few niggly problems to sort out with the captions and links back to the main album, but it is going fairly well. Hopefully I will be able to start work quite soon on updating all of the albums and adding new pictures. This is obviously going to take me some time as it involves quite a bit of work, but I am confident that you will all be able to appreciate this update as it begins to takes shape. Fingers crossed.

14/10/2010 14:42 - Home again

Hi all, I am now at home Jo came and picked me up yesterday afternoon. I was feeling absolutely shattered when we got in, form the lack of sleep, one problem with hospitals they are full of sick people. After a good night sleep and a bit of rest today I am feeling a lt better, still very tender in the groin area, but hopefully that will ease off over the next few days. Thank you for all the good wishes and kind comments.

13/10/2010 19:14 - Site Updates - Photos

From: Colin

Unfortunately no new photos have been added to the albums tonight. I apologise to anyone who has submitted photos for inclusion on the site. The reason for this is that I am trying to revamp the look of the albums and also make it easier to find newly added photos. To do this I have updated the sofware Brian used to create the albums to the latest version, which obviously means more learning for me. I also want to do some testing to ensure that it all works before I go ahead and begin to change the albums. I don't want to muck up any of Brian's hard work. Hopefully this will not take too long, and my first task when I am sure that the new software is doing what I want, and that it all works, will be to add the outstanding photos, followed by updating all of the albums. Please bear with me.
